Karen's work almost always has an historical element with roots in textile practice  - the Elizabethan era with its fine detailing, opulence and dramatic scale has influenced the ‘Ruffle’ collection, which explores textile qualities in precious metals, stainless steel mesh-cloth & Japanese paper, creating a fluid line reminiscent of undulating folds of fabric.  Architecture and urban landscapes are another inspiration for their dramatic scale and beauty in repetition.

'I try to create work that is visually striking, reflecting the spirit of my research - alluding to the past but innovative and timeless.'

Karen grew up in Devon, close to moorland and the coast and influenced by her family of artists and engineers. After working for many years in admin, she gained a degree in Silversmithing & Jewellery at The Cass and then set up her Studio. Her collections are made in small batches for galleries and craft fairs and she uses recycled precious metals.
